    Directory

    The directory lists the companies, people and teams your work is about. Every engagement is about one of them, so the directory shows all the work done for each.

    What is in the directory#

    Each record in the directory is a party: a company, a person, a team, or something else your services are done for. An engagement is always about one party, so a party's page is where you see everything done for them, across services.

    Each party has:

    • a type, such as Client or Carrier, that you define;
    • an optional reference, the identifier you use for them in your own systems;
    • an affiliation: Internal for your own side, External for everyone else.

    Open Directory in the sidebar. Filter with the Everyone, Internal and External tiles and by type, or search by name, reference or value.

    Add a party#

    Parties are added in two ways.

    Automatically. When an engagement starts for a reference the directory has not seen, a record is created for it.

    By hand. Any member can add one:

    1. Click Add someone.
    2. Choose the Kind, enter the Name, and optionally the Reference in your systems.

    A party added by hand starts as External.

    A party's page#

    Click a party to open its page. It shows the name, type and reference, its affiliation, the parties it belongs to and its members, and an Engagements panel listing the work done for it.

    Start work for a party#

    Click Start work, pick a service, and click Start. Only services that are set up for this type of party are offered.

    Memberships#

    A party can belong to another: a person to a company, a team to a department.

    • Under Belongs to, click Add to a company or team.
    • Under Members, click Add a member.

    Choose who, and optionally say in what role. One membership shows on both parties' pages. Memberships can be removed.

    Internal and external#

    An organization admin can change a party's affiliation with Mark as internal or Mark as external. You are asked to confirm.

    Party types#

    Click Manage types to see the types in use. To add one, click Add a type, give it a name, and say what it is: Person, Group, Company or Something else.

    A service is set up for one type of party. You need at least one type before you can create a service, and the form for a new service can create one for you.

    What you cannot change#

    Parties and types cannot be deleted or renamed in the console today, and a party's details cannot be edited after it is created. Choose names and references with care.
