Pin a skill#
A workspace uses a skill by pinning one of its published versions. The workspace gets its own copy of that version, and the agent can use it from its next turn.
You can pin a skill in any kind of workspace in use: an ordinary workspace, a service's workspace or an engagement's. You need edit access to the workspace.
- Open Skills in the workspace's left bar and click Pin a skill.
- Choose the Skill. The list shows published skills whose home you can open.
- Choose the Version. The latest is selected.
- Click Pin skill.
The skill appears under Pinned.
A skill is not listed if this workspace is its home or already pins it. You also cannot pin a skill while the workspace has an unmanaged folder with the same name; rename or delete that folder first.
What a pin covers#
| Where you pin | What it affects |
|---|---|
| An ordinary workspace | That workspace. |
| A service's workspace | The service. Engagements started from then on get the skill. Engagements already running keep the skills they started with. |
| An engagement's workspace | That engagement only. The service and its other engagements are not changed. |
The agent can pin for you#
Ask the agent in a conversation to pin a skill. It can pin any published skill whose home you can open. In an engagement, the agent will not move an existing pin to another version by itself; it tells you a version is offered.
Skills on a service#
An organization admin can also manage a service's skills from the service's Configuration page, in the Skills panel: Attach from the library, move to a newer version, or Remove.
Skills whose home is the service's own workspace are listed there as Homed here. Each new engagement starts on their latest published version.
Accept a newer version#
When a skill's home publishes a new version, every workspace in use that is pinned to a different version is offered it. That includes open engagements. Closed engagements and archived workspaces are not offered anything.
An offer is only an offer. Nothing changes until a person accepts it.
- Open Skills and click the skill under Pinned. It shows the version on offer. Reload the page if you are expecting an offer and do not see it.
- Click Move to and the version number.
Accepting in one engagement changes that engagement only.
There is no decline button. If you do not accept, the workspace stays on its version. On a service, the offer also shows how the skill's cases came out against the new version, which helps you decide.
Change a pinned skill and propose it back#
You can edit a workspace's copy of a pinned skill, or have the agent edit it. The workspace keeps using its changed copy, and it is never silently replaced. The skill is marked Edited here.
To send the change to the skill's home:
- Open the pinned skill's tab. Changes made here lists the files you changed, added or removed.
- Add a note saying why, and click Propose to its home.
You do not need access to the home to propose. The home's people decide.
- If they accept, the change goes into the skill's draft. Nothing is published until the home publishes, and then your workspace is offered the new version like everyone else.
- If they decline, you see their note. Your workspace keeps its changed copy.
To drop your changes and go back to the published version, click Discard changes.
If you accept a newer version while your copy has changes, you are asked whether to keep your changes or replace them. Propose them first if they should be kept.
Remove a pin#
Click Remove pin in the pinned skill's tab. The workspace is offered no more versions. The skill's files stay in the workspace until someone deletes them.
Skills that are not from the library#
The agent also loads skill folders that a person placed by hand in the workspace's .agents/skills folder. They work, but they are not managed: no versions, no cases, no track record, no offers. They are listed in the Skills view under On this drive, not from the library. To manage one, make it a skill.
